The postulancy

As first year of our formation program, will take place in Mbaukwu in the Diocese of Awka. It is a time for both the community as well as for the candidate to get known each other. This is a time of introduction in the Pallottine way of living, of our spirituality and charism, without any legal engagement from both sides.

The candidates are living together with two priests as formators for nine months. They receive instruction in varies subject ( e.g. the catholic faith, liturgy. Human Development. Bible Prayer, Vincent Pallotti our finder, African culture, Life of Saints, English French…). Daily Holy Mass, Pallottine Prayers and Prayers of the church are part of our religious exercises; sport; music and manual work in house and farm are also important for the growth of each and everyone. There will be a break in june, when the candidates go home in their respective families. The program will finish at the end of October 2012. If the candidate is admitted he will then go for Noviciate and thereafter to Philosophy and Theology. Candidates for brotherhood are having their specific program to follow.

If during the year or at the end of the Postulancy the candidate will leave the experience on his own, or for one reason or the other is send home, the community has no obligation towards the candidate or his family.

The community of the Pallottines take care of the candidate during the postulancy concerning accommodation, food and basic health. But the community will not provide any clothes, any chirurgical intervention or funeral arrangements if this would be necessary.

The community will pay the international passport (15,000 Naira) that has to be applied for after the break. The candidate needs beside the normal clothes also clothes for sports (short, boots, and socks) and for manual work coming from the parents. He will bring two bed sheets (80 X 90) and one pillow, a big towel, a big hoe and a cutlass. As uniform the postulant needs to have a big trouser and a white shirt paid by the family. He comes also with four passport photos, a bible (Christian Community Bible) and a Breviary (Daily prayer). At the end of the Postulancy the candidate needs to have 10,000 Naira for the visa’s costs.

NB: During the Postulancy telephone, radio or walkman are not allowed. (Nevertheless the handset can be kept by the Postulant master to be used only on Sundays afternoon). The candidate can receive visitors on Sunday afternoon time if he is free. We intend to visit the families during the year to get know each other.Any financial or material support to the community from the family during the year is welcome.
